QA Automation Engineer - Cape Town, South Africa
About FIXR
Here at FIXR, we’re on a mission to be the number one ticketing and event intelligence platform globally. Ticket sales and event management can often be a clunky, manual process, but our platform makes it easier than ever for event organisers to create seamless, user-friendly experiences. At the heart of our platform is a robust suite of data, reporting, and AI-powered tools that provide organisers with deep insights to grow their businesses.
Engineering drives everything we build. We are a fast-moving team that values practical, adaptable professionals who are comfortable owning their work from end to end. As we scale our international operations from our Cape Town office, we are looking for a hybrid QA Engineer who can bridge the gap between bleeding-edge automation and meticulous manual testing.
The Role
We are looking for a versatile QA Automation Engineer who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty with manual testing when a release requires a human touch. In this role, you will play a critical part in modernising our testing ecosystem - leveraging AI-driven testing tools alongside traditional automated frameworks to speed up our release cycles while maintaining a 99.99% system uptime. You will design, build, and maintain our automation test suites, while actively executing manual exploratory, regression, and functional testing on our APIs, web interfaces, and mobile applications.
This is a hybrid role, based in our Cape Town office at least 3 days per week. This role reports to the CTO.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Engineering: Design, develop, and maintain robust end-to-end automation test frameworks matching our modern engineering standards.
Manual Testing & Exploration: Perform structured manual QA, exploratory testing, and user-journey validation to detect edge cases that automation misses, ensuring smooth feature rollouts.
AI Tool Integration: Implement and champion AI-powered testing tools to assist in automated test generation, predictive bug detection, and intelligent test-suite maintenance.
Collaborative Quality Assurance: Work closely with Backend and Frontend Engineers, Product Owners, and Design teams to review requirements, map out comprehensive test plans, and catch defects early in the development lifecycle.
API Validation: Rigorously test and validate core system APIs, backend workloads, and third-party integrations (such as payment backends and payment providers).
CI/CD Integration: Integrate automated test suites into our GitOps and CI/CD pipelines (Docker, Kubernetes, ArgoCD) to support rapid and safe deployment cycles.
Defect Management: Meticulously document, prioritise, and track bugs using Jira, ensuring clean logs and clear communication for the engineering team.
Requirements
Experience: 4+ years of proven experience in a combined QA Automation and Manual QA role.
Programming & Frameworks: Strong proficiency in Python, with experience testing applications built on frameworks like Django and Django REST Framework.
Testing Ecosystem: Proven experience with automation testing tools (e.g., PyTest, Selenium, Playwright, or Cypress) alongside hands-on familiarity with modern AI-assisted testing tools or copilot extensions for code/test generation.
Database Competency: Solid understanding of relational databases, specifically writing and executing queries in PostgreSQL / SQL to verify data states.
Infrastructure Familiarity: Comfortable operating within a containerized cloud environment using Docker and tracking workloads running in Kubernetes clusters.
API Testing: Strong experience testing asynchronous tasks and event-driven caching architectures (Celery, Redis, Elasticsearch).
Mindset: A pragmatic and adaptable problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment and balances automation scalability with immediate manual validation needs.
